Do I need a winter wetsuit?

As we head into the cold winter months, many athletes intend to continue their training and prepare for next year’s triathlon season. Some may visit locations abroad to keep up their training, but it’s also good to have an idea of what training you can do in the UK to retain your fitness levels. Finding the right wetsuit combination for winter training is really important and will enhance your performance. Wetsuits are designed to keep you warm by trapping a layer of water between your skin and the neoprene layer, which is heated up by your body temperature to create a warm layer. All athletes know it’s important to choose a well-fitting wetsuit which is tight enough not let cold water in.

Yonda Spook wetsuit

The 3.0mm Yamamoto cell 38 on the Yonda Spook wetsuit offers maximum buoyancy to your chest and back. This level of neoprene improves your posture and prevents your upper body from working too hard and getting tired. Along the side panels and shoulders, you’ll find 1.5mm Yamamoto to aid flexibility as your arms glide through the water. The Yonda Spook wetsuit is a premium wetsuit positioned at a very affordable price range when compared to other options on the market. This means you can just dive right in and discover outdoor swimming.

Do I need to invest in a new wetsuit for Winter?

The answer to this question is no! Although the ideal thickness of your wetsuit hugely varies based on the temperature of the water, you can find ways to stay comfortable as the seasons change. In summer you may enjoy just 2mm neoprene, and in winter you may prefer up to 6mm. However it is possible to find a suit and accessories that can be used all year round. Before investing in another wetsuit for winter, do some research on what options are available. If you’re not sure, Mr Yonda (Angus) is always happy to discuss winter swimming in your wetsuit. Angus would probably recommend wearing our Neoprene Gloves, Neoprene Booties and an Ice Cap to retain your body heat as much as you can, without the expensive price tag of a brand new winter wetsuit.

Will my wetsuit be cold in winter?

The team at Yonda recommend researching ALL the swim options to find what’s comfortable for you. An inner brushed rash vest is a great alternative to investing in a winter wetsuit and is perfect to be used under our 2021 Spook. Available from most retailers, a rash vest is the perfect addition to your regular wetsuit, trapping heat between the suit and your body to keep you warm in the water for extended periods of time. The cost of this combination is pretty much equal to the price of a brand-new thermal winter wetsuit, but it means that you gain the benefits of the winter suit whilst wearing the same suit all year round.
